This product is welcomed as an inexpensive entry level unit that is particularly helpful for beginner DJs. Many of the most enthusiastic reviews are from people who had been keen to get into DJing but did not have a lot of money to spend, and found this was exactly what they were looking for. These users especially like the solid feel to the controls, and the responsiveness, especially of the jog wheels and scratch wheels. It is also felt to be very intuitive, as the learning curve even for complete beginners is only about an hour.
Another point for praise is that the faders on the Numark MIXTRACK DJ Mixer are firm and offer resistance, thus allowing very precise movements, although crossfader is quite loose – “both just to the right extent” – although one user felt they were “too wobbly.” Many users are also delighted by the fact that the mixer allows scratching. Although it is generally seen as a mixer for beginners, one reviewer maintains that intermediate and advanced DJs can also benefit from it, and welcomes an end to “hot days in the garage mixing it up on my acoustic DJ equipment.”
The biggest issue with the Numark MIXTRACK DJ Mixer unit for many users is its lack of a built-in sound card, although several others say that it is not an issue for them since they already had a sound card or managed to obtain one very cheaply.
